Bohemia - The Punjabi Rapper

Introducing...Bohemia

It's an average day in the streets of Oakland, California. Ladies strut by with tight skirts and baby-tees, thugs hang on the corners selling drugs and shooting dice. A block south, paramedics escort a stab-victim into an ambulance. It's also the set of Bohemia The Punjabi Rapper's music video "Sahara," a single from his upcoming album Pesa Nasha Pyar (Money Drugs Love). He's chosen this neighborhood because it's become home to him. After immigrating west over ten years ago, Bohemia came to realize that the South Asian experience in America wasn't all nice cars and palm trees. On the contrary, he found himself living amongst killers and drug dealers. Through his experiences, come raw, hard-edged raps depicting not just California street life, but also a life many South Asians lead in America. His lyrics are in Punjabi, while most of the hooks are in English. Placed over a slamming hip-hop beat, Bohemia makes it seem as though Punjabi was made to be rapped rather than merely spoken. His new album Pesa Nasha Pyar (set to drop in mid August) is a rollercoster ride of brilliantly arranged tracks ranging from dark, street themes, to upbeat party songs.
